Students required to reset password in November

To bolster online security and safeguard students’ personal information, Tacoma Public Schools requires students in grades 2-12 to reset their password on their school-issued laptop this November.

  • Students in grades 9-12:  Reset password starting Nov. 5
  • Students in grades 6-8: Reset password starting Nov. 12
  • Students in grades 2-5:  Reset password starting Nov. 19

Students will be prompted to reset after they sign into their laptop and open Clever or an Office 365 application.

New password requirements

  • Must be at least 8 characters long
  • Include both uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Contain at least one number
  • Include at least one special character: !@#$%^&*()_-<>?

Please note previous passwords can’t be reused. The process may take some time, so save your work and be patient.

Password best practices

  • Use a passphrase instead of a simple password. A passphrase is a string of words or a sentence, making it harder to guess. For added security, replace some letters with symbols or numbers. For example, you can turn "The early bird catches the worm" into "Th3b!rdcatch3sth3worm."
  • Never reuse a TPS password for other accounts. If one system is breached, sharing the same password could put other accounts at risk.
