When should your child stay home if sick, then return to school?

If a child has any symptom listed below, they should stay home in the morning or go home if these symptoms first occur at school

When a child can return to school is based on the specific symptom they have and whether it’s considered Class A or Class B.

Class A:
Fever of 100.4 or higher
Cough
Loss of taste or smell
Shortness of breath

Class B
Fatigue
Headache
Muscle or body aches
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

Please see the flowchart created by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to understand the steps to follow when your child shows any of the symptoms listed above.

To keep others healthy, please keep your child home if they are sick, have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or have tested positive for COVID-19. Questions? Contact your health care professional.
